WAIKAIA.
August 16. —Splendid spring weather prevailed during the week. Farmers arc very busy, and grand crops have been grown in the Waikaia district. Social. —On Wednesday. 11th hast., a social in aid of our Carnival Queen (Mrs Pinckney), held in the Coronation Hull, was largely attended. A dancing solo, given by Miss Smaill, of Rivorsdale, was excellent, and she received a hearty encore. Mr Clark sang a comic song, and Miss E. Milne gave a recitation. The funds will benefit to the amount of £7. Mr W. Christie was M.C. On the 18th hist, another Carnival Queen social will ho held. Rabbits.—Rabbits being a good price, many men will find employment on the runs in the district. Sickness.—A severe kind of influenza has been present in this district for some weeks. Mrs Woodward,, who has hcon ill for some months, was on Wednesday taken by ear to the Gore Hospital. She is” an old identity of Waikaia.
