GAELIC SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of the Gaelic Society was held at the Art Gallery Hall on the Ist, and was well attended. The Chief (Mr Dugald M'Pherson) presided, supported on the platform by Chieftain Kenneth Cameron and ex-Chieftain T. W. Munro. The Chief stated that the committee had decided on holding a ceilidh on New Year’s Eve, and trusted all those present would put their shoulders to the wheel to make it a complete success. Mr C. W. Wilson, pipe-major of the Southland Pipe Band, was called to the platform. • The pipe music was supplied by Mr Alastair M'Donald, Mr Neil M'Donald, Mr M'Millan, and Mr John M'Lean. Miss Love played the accompaniments The programme rendered was as follows;—Song, “Jessie’s Dream’’ and “Gala Water,” Miss Nance Duncan; Gaelic songs —“ An t’Eilean Muileach,” and “ Mufle nam mor Cheann,” and “Hi oro’s na horo eile,” Miss Mary M'Donald; V O’s thail leum an Ciobair,” Mr Dan Matheson; “ Och ho agus horo eile,” Mr Kennedy. Dances—“ Seantreus,” Miss Robinson; “Highland fling,” Master David Riddle; “ Highland reel,” Misses Robinson, Jean Riddle, Nita Frame, and Eiline King. Bagpipe selections were played by Mr Neil M'Donald, and a number of popular Scottish dances were participated in by the audience.
