One of the men charged with- drunkenness at the Gore Magistrate’s Court the other day was a resident of the country, and when arrested had in his possession (says the Mataura Ensign) a considerable sum of money in silver and two.cheques amounting to £7O odd. Whether he was drawn by natural instinct to the police headquarters for protection is not stated, but when found ho was in a helpless condition leaning over the police yard fence.
