NEW YORK TRAGEDY
NEW YORK, July 8. The mystery surrounding the murder of the lady patient in Dr Carmen’s rooms has been deepened by the discovery in Carmen’s attic of an unopened box of cartridges similar to those used in the crime. Dr Carmen reports that while he was returning Jrom a professional call a man fired at him, but he managed to escape by increasing the speed of ■ his motor. A man and a woman corroborate the story, but the police discredit it. July 9. The wife of Dr Carmen has been arrested in connection with the New York murder case. July 12. The mystery of the murder of a lady at the rooms of Dr Carmen, a fashionable physician, seems as far off solution as ever. Mrs Carmen’s negro maid says that after hearing shooting she met ber mistress ascending the stairs. The sheriff has received an anonymous letter purporting to be written by a nurse, saying that the writer fired the shot. She added, “ I meant to get Carmen. He knows why. I will get him yet.” This is a case in which Mrs Bailey, a rich patient, was found shct in the rooms | of Dr Carmen, a fashionable physician. The latter denied all knowledge of the crime. It was stated that the police discovered that Mrs Carmen had installed a dictaphone in her husband’s room. She ; had suspected his relations with his patients, j but finding her suspicions groundless re- | moved the dictaphone on the night of the ' murder to prevent her husband knowing 1 in what manner she had spied on him. A 1 later message stated that there had been discovered in Dr Carmen’s attic an unopened box of cartridges similar to those used in the crime.
