WELLINGTON, July 7. *The Christchurch Milk Supply Markets Bill, circulated to-day, provides that the City Council may— - _ . v (a) Establish and maintain within or adjacent to the city one or more milk stations for testing, treating, and distributing the milk supply of the city. (b) Buy and sell milk and cream, manufacture and sell milk, butter, and other products of milk, and ice. (c) Establish cool storage of milk, butter, and other products of milk. (d) Generally carry on the business of a dealer in milk and the products of milk. The City Council may also prohibit the sale and distribution within the city by private individuals. It may either sell and distribute by its own servants, or it may contract with other persons for the sale and distribution of the same. > The freezing chambers may be used for cool storage of all perishable goods, including fish. Provision is made for auction sales of fish at_ the municipal markets, and for stringent by-laws covering the whole of the field of operations into which the council proposes to enter.
