RECOGNITION OF BRAVERY
HUMANE SOCIETY’S AWARDS. CHRISTCHURCH, July 10. The Board of Directors of the Royal Humane Society made the following awards to-day— Cora Maney (14) and Leila Maney (12), for rescuing Ruth M‘Kay (9) from drowning at Wuipara on January 30.—Framed certificate to each. Michael Fahey Boyle (38), for attempting to rescue Albert Charles Wyatt (8) from 'drowning at Dargaville on January 19. Letter of commendation. William Guy Edwards (20), for rescuing Frederick Arthur Morgan (10), and attempting to rescue William Teviotdale (40), from drowning at Foxton on May I.—Bronzo medal. John Patrick Culhane (34), for attempting to rescue William Massey (28) from explotion and fire at Freeman’s Bay on July 25, 1913. —Silver medal. Joseph Pou (28). for rescuing 10 persona from drowning at Otama, Kuaotuna, on December 25, 1913. On the date mentioned a boat containing several persons capsized about two chains from the beach, throwing the occupants into very deep water. All of them wc*pld certainly have been drowned, as they could not swim, had it not been for the prompt action of Pou, who succeeded in rescuing eight of the party. Ho had some difficulty in rescuing th.e other two —ladies, —as their feet had become ef tangled in a rope on the boat but af/ f some exertion ho succeeded in doing so/ A Gold medal awarded, John Robert Joromoson (42), for rescuing Thomas Simrhonds (57) from drowning at Wellington on January 28.—Letter of commendation. George Hamcrton (21),. for rescuing Arthur King (7) from drowning, at Mercer on February 13.—Letter of commendation. Leslie Carl Linscombe (14), for rescuing John Williams (9) from drowning at Waiharaha Beach, Onchunga, on January 14. Framed certificate. Joseph Pereira (35), for attempting to V rescue Thomas Lowe (40) from drowning at Ocean Beach, Dunedin, on January 18.— Bronze medal. James Gunn (26), for rescuing Thomas E. Harden and attempting' to rescue Arthur Pole from drowning at Te Araroa on May 8. —Bronze medal. .
