DUNEDIN D.L.F. LITERARY AND DEBATING CLUB.

The above club held its usual weekly meeting in Dot’s room on July 7. Those present were:—-Oriel (president), Dewdrop (junior vice-president), Possum (C.M.R.), Elbon, Lady Catharine, and Silverdale. An apology was received from Dulcie for absence. The evening was devoted to a debate on “ Would we ha Happy if we Married Our Ideals?” Silverdale led for the affirmative side, supported by Dewdrop, and Possum led for the negative side, supported by Oriel and Elbon. A vote was taken, which resulted in a win for the negative side by a majority of one. The evening of July 1-1 will be “ Oxsen’s Night” and impromptu speeches. The subject for July 21 is a debate on, “Are Clothes an Index to Character?” DULCIE, Secretary. C.M.R. REPORT. Dear Comrades, —Oriel presided over a very small meeting on Tuesday, July 7. As no papers were forthcoming, the debate, “Would we he Happy if we Married Our Ideals?” was impromptu. Silverdale and Dewdrop spoke on the affirmative side, and Possum, Oriel, and Elbon on the negative side. Dewdrop replied for the affirmative side and Possum for the negative side. The voting resulted in a win for the negative side. The arguments on either side were not very strong, although the negative side were the better, July 20. —" Are Clothes an Index to People’s Characters?” All papers welcome. July 27.—Open Meeting. This is your night. Let it. surpass all ethers. < Prima Donna.—Your paper reached me too late_ for last Open Meeting, but it will be utilised at next Open Meeting. Group photos_ to hand.
