In the final of the Otago Ladies’ Golf Club championship, played last week, Mrs Rattray boat Mrs Mackie, and therefore holds the honour of champion of the club for the ensuing year. ST. CLAIR CLUB. The monthly medal competition of the St. Clair Club was held on Saturday afternoon. The gold medal was won by W. L. Robinson and the silver medal by H. W. Bundle. Best cards : Senior.

CHRISTCHURCH CLUB’S CHAMPIONSHIP. H. E. WRIGHT BEATS B. B. WOOD. CHRISTCHURCH, July 11. The final round of the Christchurch Golf Club’s Championship was played to-day at Shirley Links in excellent weather. B. B. Wood and H. E. Wright playing off in the afternoon. There was a large number of

spectators, and considerable interest was displayed in the proceedings. In the first round the two players were all square at the turn. After even going, each registering 40, Wood won at the tentn hole with 4 to 5, but Wright succeeded m equalising at the next, with 5 to 4. Even play followed at the twelfth hole, but at the thirteenth Wright succeeded in gaining _ a lead, which ho held until the fifteenth hole, where Wood got level again. The next two were halved, and the last hole was won by Wright by 4 to 6, leaving him with a lead of lup at the eighteenth. Wright started off in the second round with a lead of 1 up, and at the turn had increased his load to 2 up. Even going resulted-, up to the tenth hole, which was halved with 5_5. Wright won the eleventh hole with 4 to 6, and Wood the next with 3 to 4. At the thirteenth hole Wood was again successful, leaving him with 1 down. The fourteenth hole was halved in 4’s, and Wright won the next with 5 to 6, giving him a lead of 2 up. The sixteenth hole was halved, but in the seventeenth Wright won easily, thus winning the Championship with 3 up and 1 to play.

FRENCH CHAMPIONSHIP. PARIS, July 6. The French Open Championship contests have begun at Denonzuet in rain and wind. Scores for the first and second rounds are as follow : Edgar (Northumberland professional) and Taylor, 145 each; Yardon and Ray, 148 each; Tom Ball, 148; Braid, 152; Gilies, Michael Scott,- and Garsiat, 104 each; Massey, 155; Duncan, 158. July 7. Edgar won the French open golf championship at Letougreet with a score of 288; Yardon, 294; Ray, 295. Gillies, who was fifth with 300, secured President Poin caire’s special amateur prize. July 10. Taylor, with a score of 141, won the professionals’ match at the golf tournament at Boulogne. In the international tournament Yardon and Ray are not competing.
