WELLINGTON NOTES.

(Fbou Oub Owb Coebxßpoxdknt ) July 10. Paritutu and Crown Pearl came down from -New Plymouth with Royal Arms. It is understood that they may be seen out the second day at Trentham, and that all three will go on to R.ccaiton. JuLan was brought back from Sydney this week, and will race at Trentham. His owner, J Hennah, also returned. He ooid Forest Prince, and made a present of Captain Jingle to C. Brown, caretaker of the Randwick Racecourse. Mr J E. Henrys, the well-known hand!capper, and G Price, trainer for Mr Highden, returned from Sydney this week. The Auckland contingent were first to put in an appearance this week. They all look very fit, and are likely to take a prominent part in the meeting. Biuestone, the favour- - ito for the Parliamentary Handicap, is a neat little blue roan gelding. Me is trained by John Thorpe, who formerly visited us with those good hurdlers Cavaliero and Record Reign. Blaestone is by Bluelight (Hotchkiss —Repulse) from a grey mare named Flirt that never raced. She only had two foals, and the other one was lost sight of. From another source your correspondent learns that Flirt traces back to Hagar (Painter —Escape), half-sister to Escap<iae. -Lragar was a great old time pertormcr along the West Coast. Bluelight’s granddam was by Lochnagar, a Painter horse that stood along the Coast with Somnus. J Captain Jack, who was at Riccarton last year, is a typical hunter. B. Rae (who is down with him) told me at the course this morning that, at home the children tie one end of a skipping rope on to his tail' (wtiat there is of it) and use him for a post. » He has been in harness, als<, been used as a ladies’ hack and for farm purposes. He went with Euffy on the flat this morning,' and it is wonderful where he gets his pace from. Charlerose, a local Winter Cup candidate, has been on the easy list lately, and may not start here. J. W. Lowe has been letting Want ‘and Kilrain, his two New Zealand Cup candidates, run along. Probably no horse here has done as much work as Pimpernel (St. Ambrose—Marseillaise), C. Pritchard’s New Zealand Cup entry. The field in the Trial Plate at Trentham ' includes some Winter Cup and New Zealand Cup candidates. Mr G. L. Stead’s Rhino (Boniform—Rhine Gold) and the Hon. J. D. Ormond’s .Shaki (Hymett'os—Balama) are among those entered The Karamu stable holds a great record in connection with the race, having won it with Wirral, Peary, Dreadloss, Morecombe, and others. T. Quinlivan, Mr E. J. Watt’s trainer, came down from Hastings this week to take delivery of Black All, who was brought back in this week’s Sydney boat. He is to do his three-year-old racing in the Dominion. If Royal Arms misses here in the Winter Hurdles with 9.4 he should be hard to, beat at Riccarton. He looks fit, ahd should be all the better for a race. ' ‘ 1 Te Onga made his first appearance on the track this morning. The Great Northern winner is not like his brother either in - colour or appearance. He is not _ such a powerful horse as the steeplechaser, who ended his career at Trentham 12 months ago. , Tim Doolan, Merrie Valet, Ohakea, and Terry Flynn, who have accepted for tho fir Q f dav at Trentham. are engaged at the North Canterbury meeting on Saturday.
