N.G. Ewart presided over the half-yearly meeting of the Owaka Lodge on Saturday, Juno 27, when a record number of members were in attendance, one candidate coming forward for initiation. The election of officers for the ensuing six months took place as follows Noble grand, Bro. James Roger; vice-grand, Bro. M‘Coll; recording secretary, Bro. David Wratten (re-elected); permanent secretary, Bro. Henry Jones (reelected) ; treasurer, Bro. William C. Adam (re-elected). Receipts for the evening, £27 13s Id. Medical officer’s account for quarter passed for payment, £4O 7s 6cl. The lodge is now in a. very flourishing condition, the officers elect being all enthusiasts. A great deal of the success of the lodge is duo to the worthy secretary Bro. IT. Jones, who is indefatigable in his efforts to promote anything of benefit to the order. The annual social and ball was held in Owaka Co.’s big hall on Friday, July 3, and proved a complete success in every way. Past Grand M'Donald, M.C., conducted the affairs of the hall with efficiency, assisted, by Past Grand Kilgour and Treasurer Bro. W. Adam. Fifty-one couples took placo in the .grand march, which was led by the worthy secretary Bro. Jones _ and Mrs Jones. The numbers swelled considerably afterwards, as many as 72 couples taking part in some of the dances. _ The music was supplied by Messrs William M‘Leiland, (piccolo) and Joseph Jones (violin) and Miss Anderson (piano). able number of members of other lodges ■were present, including members of Manchester Unity of Port Molyneux and BSP clutha Lodges, also member's of 1.0.0. F. from Balclutlia and Clinton, while membeiu of the Foresters could be distinguished by their regalia. After dancing had been indulged in for about two hours an adjournment was made to the sunper room, which was very tastefully laid "out, the tables, seating 30 couples, being filled three times. The tables were presided over by the worthy secretary and Mrs Jones, assisted by a few members. After supper dancing was again indulged in well into the morning, and all seemed thoroughly to enjoy themselves. The Owaka Lodge is extremely indebted to the public of Owaka and surrounding districts for the splendid support gives to this and past socials got up by the lodge. The halfyearly installation of officers of the lodge takes place on Saturday, July 11, when some members of the executive from Dunedin are expected to be present.
