MILTON Y.M.C.A.

The Milton branch of the Y.M.C.A. is experiencing a busy period this month. During the past week-end Mr a. H. Lang, the Australasian Association’s representative at Hyderabad, India, addressed several meetings in furtherance of his appeal to kindred. associations throughout Australasia to raise £SOOh for the advancement of the work at Hyderabad and Secunderabad. There were excellent attendances at the meetings, and the Board of Management anticipates that Mr Lang’s visit will prove fruitful. - Mr A. Jameson, the national secretary for New Zealand, paid a brief visit on the 10th, and was entertained at supper. Plans were discussed for securing renewals of the membership subscriptions of 100 new members obtained during .the man-for-man campaign last July. It is hoped to a large pei'ooritage by a cnc-day canvass, which will rake place to-day. At the latter end of July a lecture will be delivered under the auspices of the association by Mr Dan Crawford, the African explorer, and author of “Thinking Black.” In addition to the foregoing special attractions arrangements have been made for a series of quoit tournaments, shooting matches, etc., between members of the Y.M.C A. and representatives from the local friendly society, fire brigade, and woollen mill employees. Trophies have been secured, which will be held by the winning team until they are wrested from them. A quoit tournament was played on Wednesday evening, resulting in a win for the Oddfellows’ team, with Y.M.C.A. second. A debating club has been formed, and the junior members recently debated the pros and cons of compulsory training, whicH resulted in favour of those supporting the present scheme. The next subject for the Juniors, “ Should Women be Allowed to Vote?” will provide material for an -m&j tabling evening.
