GOOD TIME COMING.
PRIME MINISTER’S ANTICIPATIONS. WELLINGTON, July a An optimistic reply to a deputation was made by the Prime Minister to-day on the suboct of trade prospects for the coming year. It had been represented to him that there was so much unemployment that the Government should bo carelul with its iramigration policy. >( “As. a matter of fact,” said Mr Massey, " so far as farm labour and domestic labour are concerned, there is plenty of employment ; indeed, the demand is unsatisfied. I have received a number of communications from farmers’ organisations complaining that farmers are compelled to go out of growing cereals on account of the scarcity of suitable labour. So far as ordinary employment is concerned, there was an impression that we were going to have a hard winter. The Labour Department informs me that it is able to find employment for all able-bodied applicants who come along on the various public works going on in different parts of the dominion. Wo are going to have a ‘ boom * time in the spring and summer, 1 fancy, and there will be a tremendous demand for all classes of labour.” He said that the only immigrants who were assisted by the Government were domestic servant* and farm labourers.
