THE KING AND QUEEN
LONDON, July 7. The King and Queen visited Edinburgh, and are now in Glasgow. They have received a great welcome. During the visit of their Majesties, the town clerk read a civic address of wel come. The Eight Hon. Thomas M'Kinnon Wood (Secretary for Scotland) handed the King a reply thereto. Elis Majesty began to read, and after he had read a few words looked puzzled, and realised that something was wrong. He found that Mr Wood had given him the wrong reply. Their Majesties and all- present burst into hearty laughter at the contretemps. July 10. Their Majesties the King and Queen visited the Park Mead Steel Works, Glasgow, and watched the manufacture of 15in guns. A picturesque, incident in the day’s proceedings was the presentation of a bouquet of orchids to the Queen, to which 1 the workpeople had subscribed a penny each. An overhead crane capable of lifting 100 tons was utilised to carry a little girl down ‘the shop to their Majesties, where she timidly asked the Queen to accept the bouquet. Their Majesties were obviously delighted with the incident. July 12. Their Majesties concluded their Scottish tour after visiting Dunblane, Stirling, and Linlithgow.
