HINDUS AT CANADA
VANCOUVER, July 6. The Court of Appeal of British Columbia decided unanimously against the Hindus ■aboard the Komogata M am being allowed to land. The court held that the Order-in-Council prohibiting the admission of Asiatics was good, and had full eifect. The 'Hindus did not possess the necessary amount of money to permit them to land in Canada. They had not made a direct journey to this country. The majority of them were also unskilled labourers, and therefore temporarily barred under any circumstances. July 8. The Hindus aboard the Komagata Maru announce the abandonment of their attempt to enter Canada. They assert that they are without sufficient funds to enable them to return to the Orient, and are asking the dominion Government to arrange financially to convey them home. OTTAWA, July 6. The Government is requesting Great .uritain to appoint a Royal Commission, including Australasian and South African representatives, to inquire into the ques-
tion of Indian immigration into overseas dominions. July 10. j The Government refuses to defray the , expenses of deporting the Hindus. It i proposes to make an example of the pre- ! sent base in order to prevent similar attempts in future.
