OTAGO LAND BOARD.

Messrs E. H. Wilmot (commissioner), J. 0. Anderson, G. Livingstone, P. Kinney, and T. A. Munro were present at the last meeting of the board, a belated report of the sitting of which has reached us. Mr Munro, the newly-elected member (in place of Mr J. A. Maopherson) took his seat for the first time, and was welcomed by the commissioner and the other members pr, the board. The following business was transacted : ** Lucy Robertson applied for permission to purchase an area of about one acre in Block I, Cromwell district. —Purchase approved ; capital value £5 per acre. Rachel Drummond applied to lease forest reserve, Section 68, Block VIII, Moeraki district. the said area being adjacent to Section 67, already occupied by her. —Held over for ranger’s report. Mr Percy D. Ryan was called upon to show cause why his lease over Sections 2 and 36, Block K. Waitahuna East district, should not be declared forfeited for noncompliance with the residence condition thereof. —Forfeited lor non-residence, but forfeiture not to bo mads absolute until ranger has reported further. Mr Gerald W. Ryan, lessee of Section 37, Block X, Waitahuna East district, v.ascalled upon to show cause why his lease should not be declared forfeited for breach ot the residence condition. Forfeited for non-resi-dence, but forfeiture not to be made absolute till ranger has further reported. Mr John Wright, on Behalf of the residents of Ettrick, requested that the board set aside as a recreation reserve -a portion of the land in Block I, Benger district.— Referred to ranger for report. Mr George Weller Jackson applied for an occupation lease over an area of about 30 acres in Block IX, Leaning Rock district. —Referred to warden and ranger, and to bo advertised. Mr J. A. Laurie requested that lie bo granted permission to forfeit his lease over allotment 51a. Conical Hills settlement.— Held over till the December meeting; reasons to be submitted for the surrender. Ranger O’Neill reported that Sophia Lewis had not complied with the improvement condition of her lease over Section 64, Block IX, L caning Rock district. —To show cause why her lease should not be declared forfeited. Ranger O’Neill reported that Samuel Gridgeman, lessee of Section 6. Block XI. Woodland district, had loft the dominion, and suggested that his lease over the said section should be declared forfeited. —License to be declared forfeited; ranger to t.fue improvements and suggest capital vahnMr Mungo Allison wrote requesting that the capital value be reduced on Sections 30 and 54, Block V, Lower Hawea district. — Sections to bo withdrawn from Land Guide, and to be offered as third-class land at 7s 6d per acre. Mrs John Murphy applied to purchase Section 47. Block XII, Lower Hawea district. —To be offered at auction : upset £5. Mr S. C Harsen applied to purchase Section 70, Block XI [, Lower Hawea district.— To be offered at auction ; upset £5. Ranger O’Neill forwarded a report upon Section 73. Block VIII, Leaning Rock district, held under occupation lease by Mr Jas. Nieper, who had failed to comply with the residence condition.—Sublease for one year from date granted to Mr E. Marslin. Ranger O’Neill reported upon the application of Mr John Thompson Ferguson for an occupation lease over an area of about 50 acres on Earnscieugh run. Loaning Rock district.—Referred to warden and Inspector of Minos for reports. Ranger O’Neill forwarded a report upon the application of Mr John Hawley to purchase an area of about 12 acres in Block X. Leaning Rock district.—Declined. Ida Ann Paterson wrote further with respect to the damage done by mining to S'Ction 4, Block XI, Maniototo district, hold by her under J.i.p. 206. —Received; applicant to be informed that she must apply to the Mines Department. The Warden. Nose by. forwarded a report upon the application of Mr David Jones for a renewable lease over Section 105. Block 1, St. Bathans district. —Granted under section 138 of the Act, at a capital value of 25s per acre. The Warden, Lawrence, forwarded a report upon the application of Mr George Frederick Saxon for an occupation lease over Sections 12 and 13. Block VIII. R inkleburn district.—Granted; capital value £2 15s per acre. The Secretary, Clutha River Board, submitted for the approval of the Land Board a sketch of the proposed roadway to be formed at the top of Manuka Island.—Recommended that a grant of £l5O bo applied for to form road on to the island. Authority wag requested for the receiver of land revenue to deal with the sum of £25, being valuation for improvements on Section 58, Block IX, Glonoma.ru district,— Receiver authorised to pay £6 10s arrears of rent, £1 15s cost of re-entry, 17s lid county rates, and £l6 2s Id to Mrs Dowling. Ranger O’Neill forwarded a report upon the application of Mr D. L. M'Coll for compensation for damage done by coal mining to his Section 5a Duncan settlement. —Held over for the December meeting. Mr W. A. Bodkin, on behalf of tiie executors of Mr P. M'Gettigan, deceased, applied under subsection 2 of section 251 of “ The Land Act, 1903,” for an extension of time in which to pay the rent on pastoral run 496. —Date on which rent is duo extended from September 1, 1913. to October 21, 1913. Mr Alex. Christie applied for a renewal of his license over run 424 n. In Id by him under pastoral license 1409. —Referred to Run Classification Commissioners. Mr Arthur Keegan’s application to purchase an area in Block 1. Upper Taieri district, was considered. Mr J. E. Ken nedy lodged an objection to the granting of the foregoing application.—Objection received. Mr C. C. G raham requested permission to erect wire-netting fence and subdividing fences on a portion of Run 335 k, held by him under pastoral license 982.—Recommended. Mr Win. Toms applied to have included in his occupation lease over Section 29, Block I, Bannockburn district, an area ad-

Graham applied for permission to erect wire-netting tenets on run 433, which she holds under pastoral license 1333. ■—Recommended. Mr Aaron Dyke applied for a yearly license over Sections 6, 13, 14, 15, 17. 20. and part of 7, Block 111, town of Ranfurly.—Referred to ranger for report. Mr C. C. Sanders applied for a grazing license over an area between the Clutha River and Block XXVI, Town of Cromwell.—Referred to ranger for report. Mr W. A. Bodkin, on behalf of Mr ISorman Hill Browne, applied for an occupation lease over an unsurveyed area of about 15 acres in Leaning Rock District,—Referred to ranger for report. Mr James Oabbe, jun., applied for an occupation lease over Section 30, Block I, Baiinockburn District.—Mr Henry Murray wrote with regard to the application asking that, in the event of its being granted, provision be made for gates to be erected to enable residents to have use of the track running through the said section.—Referred to ranger for report. Mr jamea Thomas P. Norton applied for an occupation lease over an area of about 1| acres to the south-west of and adjoining Section 48, Block IX, Leaning Rock District.—Referred to ranger for report. Mr John T. Rodger applied to transfer to Bishop Verdou an area of la 16p in the south-east corner of Section 181, Block I, Waitahuna West District, and to receive in exchange therefor the area bttween Sections 178 and 180, same block.—To be informed that the board will accept surrender of part occupation lease, ard will grant an equal area in lieu thereof on production of plan of said areas by an authorised surveyor. Ranger O'iNeiil reported upon the fee simple, improvements, and proposed rent on small grazing runs 26211 and 2620, MiMatthew Elliott lessee —The report was adopted.—Consideration was aleo given to the applications from Messrs Thomas VVhelan and John T. Xott for portions of .the said runs 262 H and 2620.—Declined, as the board had no power to grant the applications. Mr Thomas G. Smith applied for a license over portion of the mining reserve adjoining his holding in Block VI, Benger District. — Referred to ranger for. report. Ranger Leonard reported upon the valuation of Section 3. Block IV, Ilighlay District, held under the small grazing run system by Mr Peter M'Leod.—Rangers O'Neill a,nd Leonard to visit and send in report as to proposed subdivision of run. Mr James Simon Murney applied to purchase renewable lease 605, Section 7a, Taumata Settlement.—Purchase approved. The following applications for permission to transfer were approved: —Lease in peipetuity 445, Section 3, Block IX, Tarris District, and lease in perpetuity 1425, Section 4, Block IX, Tarras District —Christina Foster to Mr Thomas Smith ; lease in perpetuity 9205. Section 65, Block VIII, Makareao Estate—Mr James Farquharson to Mr Win. Young; -School Commissioners' lease 845, Section 2 of 15 Block VI, Moeraki DistrictMr Charles Reginald Clark to Mr Donald Dreaver. An application for permission to transfer renewable lea-e 70;, Section 7a, Meadowbank Settlement, Mr George John Thomas Taylor to John Andrew Ballwigall, was recommended for the approval of the Minister. Messrs Brodrick and Chalmer applied, on behalf of Mr John Bigwood, for a lease over an area between Kingston terrace and the Taieri River as a site for a.n accommodation house. —It was decided to tyrant the applicants an area between Kingston terrace and the top of the river bank at a rental of £1 per annum, on proof to the board that, Mrs Bigwood had acquired the house thereof from Mr Frank Johnston.
