Bt Ravsksworth MELBOURNE, November 24. RACING IN MELBOURNE. A meeting in aid of the Distressed and Disabled Jockeys’ Fund, controlled by the V.R.C., was held on the Mooneo Valley course on Wednesday last, and between £7OO and £BOO was cleared. The racing was not of much account. North Woodleigh (by Rice, imp.) was responsible for a fine performance in the Ladies’ Trophies Corinthian Handicap. Although ho had 13st to carry, ho was not badly treated. NikoEoli 9.7 was out in front from the start, ut North Woodleigh joined the leaders turning into the straight, and, treating his big impost with indifference, he cut down Nikopoli, and won very easily, running the seven furlongs in Imin 30jsec. Wo have had few bettor horses under big weights of recent years than North Woodleigh. RACING IN SYDNEY. The loading event in the Canterbury Park mooting on Saturday, the Canterbury Handicap, one mile and a-quartor and 100 yards, went to Haze 7.5, who beat the favourite, Zeus 8.2, by a neck. C. Bolton, who is in form, again got home on the favourite, Hyppolyto, in the two-year-old event. Hyppolyte is by Linacro (imp.), and only beat Lingard by half a length. The other winners were Minuo (bv Misty, imp.), Farina (by .Fucile, imp.). Former (bv Boniform), and Purple Straw (by Gluten, imp.), Purple Straw, with Mr Oonne!! up, won the Shorts Handicap in good style. LOCH MABEN SCANDAL. The V R.C. Committee held a long meeting on Friday, when they dealt with the appeals lodged by D. J Price, J. M'Laughlin, and W. M'Cloud. Price and M’Laughlin were disqualified for two years by the stipendiary stewards in connection with the running of Loch Maben in the Hurdle Race at Williamstown on November 7, and M’Cloud was suspended for six months for giving misleading evidence. The appeals were dismissed, and the decision of the stipendiary stewards confirmed. Mr E. Manfold did not sit on the appeals, as Price trained some of his horses. The disqualification of Loch Mahon and the owner, C J. King, for life was also confirmed. MISCELLANEOUS. While riding Neil Geddes in the Hurdle Race at the Ballarat Miners’ Turf Club’s meeting on Friday O. Nance was thrown, and sustained concussion of the brain. Ho was riding with short leathers. Nance recently returned from India, and ho has done a good deal of riding for the Flemington jumping stables. In the same event Mr IT. Maloof’s Bitolia (bv Merv) broke down while running in a commanding position. Examination showed that he had broken a fetlock, and lie was consequently destroyed. The principal event at the meeting went to Galveston (by Muloo Sates). The two-year-old Cay Duke (by Duke, of Melton) has been sold in Melbourne to go to Tasmania. SALE OP BLOOD STOCK. LONDON, December 3. The Duke of Devonshire sold at Newmarket 10 mares for 20.040 guineas, and four foals for £6560. : neluding 3100 guineas for the Bayardo—Cheshire Cat colt, a record price for a foal. December 4. Mr L’oneJ Robinson’s four mares at the Newmarket sales realised 11.300g5, including Little Goose 6200g5. Delilah IT (in foal to Snnstar) has been privately sold to the German Government for 2500g5. December 5. The blood stock sab's at Newmarket yesterday aggregated 61.520g5. an average of 424ga, including 4500 gs for fli" Salamanca Mantascheff colt. The Russians spent 50.000 gs during the sales. The sales have closed. The sales aggregated 713 lots, realising 308,658 gs —a record.
