ATTEMPTED ARSON.

CHARGE AGAINST A FARMER. FOXTON, December 8. A farmer named James Williams is under arrest on a charge of attempting to burn down a cottage occupied by his wife, and also his own house. It is stated that when the building was alight Williams knocked on the wall and aroused the inmates, who extinguished the flames. Williams then rode to his own home, two miles distant, which, with the contents, was soon afterwards burned down. Williams gave himself up to the police. He has been remanded to Palmerston North.
