EMPEROR OF AUSTRIA
VIENNA, August 19. There are great rejoicings on the occasion of the Emperor Franz Joseph’s birthday. The emperor has appointed the Archduke Ferdinand Inspector-general of the whole army. BERLIN, August 19. The Kaiser held a banquet in honour of the birthday of the Emperor of Austria, and thanked him for his effort to preserve peace during the Balkan crisis. He added that the Austro-German alliance would be preserved for the benefit of the world. The Emperor of Austria was born on August 18, 1830, and is therefore 83 years of age.
