DOMINION PRODUCERS’ ASSOCIATION.

CANADA ANXIOUS TO CO-OPERATE. A PROMISING MOVEMENT. GISBORNE. August 19. A cablegram lias been received by Mr VV. D. Lysnar from Bristol, on behalf of the Bristol and Dominions’ Producers’ Association for receiving and marketing produce in England. which states: —“The representative of the Canada Producers says they will probably come into the New Zealand scheme. The directors at Bristol consider this most desirable. They ask will >ve consent on behalf of New Zealand.” On receipt of this message Mr Lysnar communicated it by telegram to the other leaders in the New Zealand movement, asking for their opinion as to what reply should be sent. After replies' had been received, Mr Lysnar despatched the following cablegram : —-“ Generally favourable Canada inclusion. Before deciding would like to know views of manager and terms suggested for Canada’s inclusion regarding capital and control.”

Dealing with the subject mentioned above, Mr Lysuar stated that he regarded the request made on behalf of Canada to be one of very great importance, and he considered that there would bo nothing to Jose and everything to gain by obtaining the cooperation of Canada in the marketing of produce. “ Their main articles,” said Mr Lysnar, “ are wheat, cheese, bacon, fruits, and horse fodder. Their season is our offseason, and the only articles of importance that would come into competition in the English market with our produce would be cheese, and Canada is credited with producing some of the finest cheese in the world, and in the past has obtained a higher price for this article than New Zealand, consequently it would make the prospects of New Zealand better, as well as that of Canada, for a reliable management to have control of the marketing of the produce from both countries. It will enable this dominion to hold the trade for Canada in its off-season and Canada .'n the same way would assist to hold the trade for this dominion It is pleasing to realise that the representatives of Canada are desirous of moving in this direction. Another phase of importance to New Zealand is that they will help to bear the coat of the staffing of our various selling depots throughout England. The fact that the Canadians are prepared to make use of the West Coast ports shows that they appreciate the business being advocated by the Bristol and Dominion Producers’ Association, and it should make New Zealand more confident that the movement is on right lines. As a matter of fact the bulk of the Canadian produce has been shipped to the West Coast ports for some time past, but no doubt the Canadians realise the necessity of co-operating in marketing their produce.” Mr Lvsnar states that a meeting will be called sliortly to appoint representatives in the different districts throughout New Zealand to act as a lioard of management in Now Zealand, and to engage the services of a manager for Now Zealand, and other necessary staff. Everything is now being being got ready in England to receive the produce for the forthcoming season. It has already been decided to include Australia in the scheme, and a similar number of shares to those alloted for New Zealand (20,000) has been set aside for Australia. With New Zealand, Australia, and Canada combining it will make a very powerful organisation, and one that must give a great leaver to the producers.
