GREEN ISLAND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

In connection <vith the jubilee of th« Green Island Presbyterian Church a bazaar was opened on the 21st in Kirkland Hall, adjoining the church. The chair was occupied by the minister of the church, the Rev. J. Kilpatrick, who had beside him oa the platform Mr J, Blair, the oldest member of the congregation The Mayor of the borough (Mr \V. Geddes), in opening the bazaar, made a brief but happy speech, in which ho explained that the object of the bazaar was to raise funds in aid of the church work. Ho had been a member of the Deacons’ Court of the church for many years, and he knew the difficulty of raising.' hinds to carry on the many branches or work connected with the church. Thai bazaar was called the “ jubilee ” bazaai because of the jubilee of the congregation, and not on account of their present church, which was built in 1878. It was a fine piece of architecture, and he thought compared very well in beauty and design with many which had been built more recently, but it needed money to keep it going, and efforts such as the present one had to be made from time to time to keep the finances in a proper condition. Ho trusted that those present would show their interest an enthusiasm by buying up the goods as far as possible. He wished the bazaar every success.—(Applause.) • The results of the work of the ladies wa*. abundantly apparent in the various stalls, which .were laden with a liberal supply of articles calculated to he both useful and ornamental. The members of the churoh and friends attended' in large numbers, and immediately after the sale was declared open a brisk business commenced at the various stalls. In connection with tha bazaar there was a baking competition for cakes and scones, for which a largo number of entries were received.
