OTAGO RAILWAYS.
DEPUTATION OF OTAGO MEMBERS. GOVERNMENT’S INTENTIONS. (From Our Own Correspondent ) WELLINGTON, August 19. A deputation of Otago members—the Hon. A. Millar, M essrs E. H. Clark, C. E. Statham, T. K. Sidey, R. Scott, and G. M. Thomson —waited on the Prime Minister this evening with reference to resolutions passed by the Otago Central Railway League, the Lawrence-Roxbnrgh Railway League, and the Dunedin Expansion League, affecting 1 the continuation of the Lawrence-Roxbnrgh Railway from Beaumont towards Roxburgh, and the resumption of the construction of the Central Otago line to Cromwell from ite present terminus at Clyde. The object of the deputation was to urge the Government to push on these lines. The Hon. das. Alio ' and the Ron. W. Fraser were also present. After hearing the deputation the present position of the Lawrenoe-Beaumont line was explained by Mr Fraser. He hopes to have the line completed and opened to the Athenreum Reserve in time for the coming fruit season. The Government intends to continue the construction works to Beaumont, to which point the line has been authorised. In regard to the further authorisation of the line from Beaumont and the further construction of the Otago Central lino, the Prime Minister stated that those lines would have favourable consideration when the appropriations came before the Cabinet, but up to the present no matter in connection with further railway construction had been considered by the Cabinet.
