j The commotion which took place among ! a number of Maoris in the Wairarapa over the decision to hold a post-mortem examination on the body of a Native named Peter Cowan was duo to the Native superstition that no man could enter Paradise if his body was mutilated after death, and that if any part of a man’s body was taken away by another, that other was endowed with i all the virtues and bravery of the deceased, and deceased was damned eternally.
