According to the Labour Journal, 457 persons were assisted by the Labour Department during July to obtain employment. They included engine-drivers, engineers, farm hands, miners, gardeners, blacksmiths, labourers, and carpenters. Of tins number, 112 were married and 345 were single men of widowers. The Government found place* for 198 on public works, and 259 wore sent to private employment.
