A private party of New Zealanders defeated a team representing the Raudwick Rowling Club by 50 points to 33. TAIERI CLUB. Ilie annual social held on Wednesday evening was an overwhelming success (say* the 'laiori Advocate). The attendance was the largest- at any function of its kind ever held in Mosgiel. All arrangements were in excellent order. Dancing was the principal item on the programme, but a largo number occupied scats on the stage, and took part in a game of cards-. Songs were sung at an interval by Miss Inglis, Mies Ford, and Messrs Russell and Rollinson. Tho seating accommodation was insufficient, the ladies alone occupying all tho available scats placed around the walls. At supper time a few additional soars were placed in. the hall. The number of ladies present was about 170, and the number of men was very little below that A pleasant function was the presentation of a bag and a Mosgiel rug to Mr M’Kinnon, and also a rug for Mrs M’Kinnon. Mr M'Kinnon has made a very efficient secretary for the past eight years, and the successful running of the dub has been in a great measure due to his strict attention and careful management of the duties of secretary ; and members took this means ot showing their appreciation. Mr A. F. Quolch made tho presentation in an appropriate speech, and Mr M'Kinnon ’suitably acknowledged the kindness of the club members. The presentation ceremony ended with the singing of “ He’s a jolly good follow,” and cheers for Mr and Mr« M’Kinnon.
