WELLINGTON NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent ) August 22. Arthur Oliver is making a short stay in the Dominion this time. He "came hack from Sydney to ride at the Grand National meeting, and rode three winners. He went Ixick to Sydney to-day, and will return for the Wellington spring meeting in October. F. D. Jones and L. Traill also made the trip across. Harry Hickey, the Hastings trainer, is expected to leave for Sydney next week with a team of jumpers, which will include Beacon. The Rover, and Chief Marshal. Mr Whyte, secretary of the Wellington Racing Club, loft this week for a business trip to the West Coast, and was at Renfton to-day. Mr M. Hannan is in Wellington attending the County Councils’ Conference. Messrs T, H. Lowry and R. T. Turnbull returned this week from a holiday trip to the Islands. Mr J. B. Reid is due from Ensdand next week. Kilrain joined J. W. Lowe’s team at Trentham this week. Fred Davis leaves for Sydney next week with Soltano, who will be ridden in the A.J.C. Derby by A. Oliver. None of the other members of Mr Lowry's team will be sent across. After a spell, Dearest has again joined the active members of the Porirua team. Mr Pi •osser left the private hospital this week and went home. Some fair performers are engaged at the Marton meeting next month. Roval Arms is in the principal event with 7.10. and Black Lupin, who beat Winning Way at Riccarton. is in the sprint event at 7.7. The owner of the latter went through to Palmerston todav. It was intended to_ spell the chestnut, but after the Erood cho\yjjng he made on the concluding dav at Riccarton ho may be gone on stith.
