A North Island school inspector e report contains the following paragraph; “ A remarkable statement has boon received from a country school teacher to the effect that the school committee, by a majority, rejected a proposal that a library should be formed because it might interfere with the milking of the cows!” Two hundred heirs of 27 sailors who lost their lives in the sinking of the steamer Tioga in the Chicago River in 1888 have just won a suit for damages against the steamship company, after 25 years’ litigation. Since the case began eight of the original plaintiffs and tho original counsel for both the heirs and the company have died.
