N.S. WALES POLITICS

SYDNEY, August 21. In the Assembly the Deputy Chairman (Mr Thrower) took umbrage at Mr Miller asking him to “ speak up.” He ordered Mr Miller to withdraw the remark, but the member claimed that his request was a fair one. Mr Thrower threatened to report the matter to the Speaker, and as Mr Miller refused to withdraw the words, on the Deputy Chairman’s order the sergeant-at-arms removed him The Cabinet has approved the £3,003,000 railway construction scheme of Messrs Norton, Griffiths, and Co., subject to Parliament’s endorsement. In the Assembly the Government secured the reintroduction of the State Ironworks Dill by the narrow majority of two Independents. Mr Wade gave notice of motion to-day that the agreement with Messrs Norton, Griffiths, and Co. was highly unsatisfactory and fraught with great danger to this State. Mr Holman immediately moved the adjournment of the Assembly till Tuesday in order to consider the position created by this fresh censure motion. It is considered that Mr Wade’s motion shows strategy. Mr Griffith had already announced that the agreement when submitted would not be made a party question. The Government may, with its slight majority, defeat the censure motion, but subsequently its members must vote in favour of the agreement in order to be consistent. August 23. A Cabinet meeting discussed Mr Wade’s censure motion. Ministers anticipate that it will be defeated by about eight votes. They emphasise the statement that the Government is under no obligation to submit the scheme (involving a £3,003,000 contract) to the House, which had already approved the proposed railways. Speaking at Campsie Mr Wade accused the Government of almost making the country bankrupt by its wanton extravag-

ance and of contravening one of the leading planks in the platform by borrowing in the manner proposed.
