Mass meetings of railwayman were held at Hyde Park, Doncaster, York, Liverpool, and Birmingham in celebration of the 1911 strike.
The meetings indicated strongly a spirit of unrest, also a sharp difference of opinion between the leaders. Twenty thousand were present in Hyde Park, where some of the speakers referred so the Executive disdainfully.
The meeting passed a resolution demanding that the Executive should initiate a campaign against non- unionism. It urged the Executive to tlx a date whereon all railwayman must )>o unionists, and then to insist on an eight-hours day. and £1 10s per week as the minimum wage. Similar resolutions were passed elsewhere Mr Williams (General Secretary), speaking at the York meeting, said the present method of conciliation was too slow. At the Doncaster meeting it was stated that conciliation was one-sided.
