THE AMERICA CUP
NEW YORK, August 17,
Three syndicates, headed by Messrs Vanderbilt, George Pynchon, and A. Cochrane respectively, have been formed with the object of building a boat to defend the America Cup. The New York Club firmly refuses to sign Sir T. Lipton’s agreements binding that the cup defender shall not exceed a definite size. It is understood, however, that the members of the syndicates have agreed that the size shall be approximately what Sir Lipton’s challenge specifies.
