NATIONAL ART GALLERY.
WELLINGTON, August 14.
In reply to a deputation which waited upon him in respect to a scheme for the national art gallery, the Minister of Internal Affairs stated that if was part of the policy of the Government to establish a national art gallery in tiie city in conjunction with, but not necessarily under the same roof as, the National Museum. Temporary provision for the accommodation of the collection would in all probability be made in the remodelling of *' the present library building. In regard to the ultimate destination of the art gallery, the Minister gave his assurance that the scheme in view would meet all the requirements of the people of New Zealand and be on a permanent basis.
