CANTERBURY DEFEATS TARANAKI. NEW PLYMOUTH, August 14. Canterbury defeated Taranaki to-day by 10 points to 9, after a hard-fought and evenly-contested game. It was a tine exhib tion of football for a wet ground. The weather was fine, and good passing was displayed by both sides. Canterbury, however. were lacking in finesse, and Taranaki were poor in tackling. In the first spell Moir scored for Taranaki, but the kick at goal was a failure. Smith, for Canterbury, kicked a penalty goal. In the second spell Hooker, for Taranaki, scored tries, but neither of the_ tries was converted. For Canterbury, Koskald and Shanks each scored a try. The. kick in the case of Koskald's try was a failure, but Smith succeeded with the other. WELLINGTON DEFEATS CANTERBURY. WELLINGTON, August 17. The Wellington League representative team defeated Canterbury on a 'greasyground at Newtown Park yesterday afternoon. The visitors had the advantage in the ill’st spell, playing a fast forward game. At half time the score was: Canterbury, 8 points; Wellington, 6. In the second epell Wellington had the aid of the wind and their backs and forwards began to get foothold. The visitors were unable to increase their score, while the home team put on an additional 20 points. _T.ho game ended thus: Wellington, 26 points; Canterbury. 8 points. POSITION OF HEADQUARTERS. AUCKLAND, August 16. The Auckland Football League last night, by 21 votes to 7, reversed tho decision of three weeks ago to urge the removal of tho headquarters to Wellington, the majority of clubs having since instructed their delegates how to vote. NEW SOUTH WALES LEAGUE TEAM. SYDNEY, August 17. The league football team loft for New Zealand by the Ulimaroa yesterday.
