A deputation consisting of women's societies in different parte of the dominion waited on the Prime Minister to-day, and brought under his notice the series of resolutions adopted throughout the country having for their object the remedying of certain social evils for the protection of women and children, raising the age of consent to 21, and an amendment of the law in other directions. It was suggested that marriage for females be fixed at 16, and 18 for males; that farm colonies be provided for women who have two or mors illegitimate children; and that some women visitors to gaols be appointed justices of the peace. The Hon. Mr Massey sympathised with the resolutions generally, and promised to submit them to Cabinet, with his recommendation that legislation be introduced, if possible, this session.
