ACTION FOR DAMAGES.
AUCKLAND, August 17. A verdict for the full amount claimed was given by the jury yesterday in the case in which Dudley Bruce Hill, sheep farmer, of Fernhill (Hawke’s Bay), sued the Railway Department for £IOOO damages as the result of injuries received in a collision between a motor car and a locomotive at Kaukanakapa level crossing, on the Helensville line, on January 14. The plaintiff alleged that the department had been negligent in the upkeep of the crossing. After a retirement of two hours the jury brought in a verdict for the plaintiff, assessing the damages in respect of the injury at. £IOOO. The points of law to be argued were reserved for the Court of Appeal.
