OUR DEFENCE SYSTEM
VIGOROUS REPLY TO CRITICS. LOXDOX, Au 2. ist 7. The Hon. T. Mackenzie, in the course of a spirited letter to 68 newspapers, replies to letters that have appeared in the Daily News, Manchester Guardian, and other papers warning immigrants not to go to New-Zealand. He recalls the fact that the defence scheme has been approved at three elections. Xew Zealand, he says, is not far from Asia, whence trouble may come, it is, in his view, improper to rely on Great Rntam for an emergency. More immigrants, however, are applying for passages than can be taken, and Xew Zealand would be well rid of all those people who create disturbances and are without the manliness to help to defend their women and children.
