GAELIC SOCIETY.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Gaelic Society was held in the Early Settlors’ Hall on the sth. The chief of the society (Mr Dugald M'Pherson) presided. He was supported on the platform by Chieftain William M'Dougall and Mr Win. Morrison.
The Chief explained the reason of the meeting taking place at the Early Settlers’ Hall instead of the Art Gallery Hall. He said his Worship the Mayor came to him and asked if the Gaelic Society would consent to,change halls, and after an interview with Chieftain Roderick Mackenzie it was decided that the Chief Magistrate’s request could not be refused. The Chief also announced that the annual gathering of the society would be held in September. The. following new members were elected ; —Mr Murdoch M'Gregor, Mr Gregor M‘Donald, Mr Malcolm Nicoleon, Mr Neil Grant, Mr John Lang, Mr Christopher M‘Kay, Mr John M’Kinnon, Mr Duncan M'Aliister.
The programme submitted during the evening was ns follows: —Highland reel, the audience; song, “Three men went a-hunt-ing,” Mr Archd. Johnson; Gaelic song,
“ Is toith leum a Ghacltaoh,” and encore. “ Ucoch slainto na’n cuiridhean,” Mr William Morrison; dance, seauntreus. Miss McDonald; first set of quadrilles, the audience; Gaelic song, Mr Fraser; song, “ Caller--0,” and encore, “ My heart is sair for somebody.” Mrs Lister; song. “Jessie, the flower o’ Dunblane,” Miss Mackenzie; dance, Irish jig. Master Colin MTCenzic; Gaelic song, “ O ’Staith leum anoiobair,” Mr Dan Matheson, junr. Mr Dan Matheson, jun., Mr A. J. M‘Kay, Mr George Munro, Mr Kenneth Cameron, and Mr Donald M'Arthur played the national music, and Miss L. Reeve played the accompaniments. On the termination of the programme at 10 o’clock dancing became general, and was kept up for about an hour.
