DUNEDIN STARR-BOWKEIT SOCIETY.
special general meeting of the Dunedin Srarr-Bowketfc Society, called by a requisition bearing 25 signatures, was held on the 7tli inst., Mr M. Coin'll, chairman of directors, presiding. Tile meeting was held to obtain from the directors an explanation as to the resignation of Mr lloperatt, the secretary, and to amend, if thought desirable, some of the rules. No. 1 group having reached maturity—that is, all members thereof having obtained a draw - is now in process of liquidation. The chairman explained that it became Accessary to reduce expenses connected with No. 1 group, as the liquidation might extend over a considerable period, and it bad therefore been decided to give Mr Hoperaft six months’ notice of the intention to reduce bis salary by £25 and to reduce the directors’ fees by £25. Mr Hopcraft at once tendered his resignation, and that had been accepted. Jt was pointed out that as the Dunedin Society was the pioneer Starr-Bowkctt Society, all the other Starriiowkett Societies in Dunedin were watching with interest the method of winding-up. After some considerable discussion, in which the speakers expressed the opinion that Mr II opera ft’s services had been invaluable, and should be adequately remunerated, it was eventually resolved that the society’s solicitors and auditors, with the secretary and directors, formulate a scheme for windingup No. 1 group, and report to a future meeting; and, pending such report, the status and salary of the secretary remain as before. Some amendments wore moved, but on the chairman’s announcement that Mr Hoperaft had withdrawn bis resignation (on announcement received with loud applause) the amendments were withdrawn, and the ret-ohuion carried unanimously
