The Times (London) on June 27 published a Textile Number of 62 additional pages t<> the ordinary issue. Jr is a remarkable p.eee of enterprise, and the collecting and collating of the information must have involved endless labour and much expense. Ihe story of textiles is told, beginning with the early history of spinning ami weaving. Silk, wool, cotton, ramie, cocoa nut. and almost every conceivable kind of raw material comes under review. Tho machinery used and the manufactured product are described, separate articles being devoted to centres of industry in Lancashire. Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, and others, also the centres north of the Tweed. The number is a wonderful production, and the only drawback is the difficulty of conveniently handling the 62 piuges. The August number of Life contains an interesting article by the editor on "I he Great White Battlefields of the \\ orid.” This spirited review of the thrilling stories of polar explorations will serve as an introduction to “Captain Scott’s Own Story.” which is to appear in Life. Short stories, interesting and informative articles on a variety of topics, and selected poetry arc among other features. The magazine is freelv illustrated.
