DISMISSAL OF MR J. T. SULLIVAN.

(From Our Owx Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, August 6. Mr J. T. Sullivan, late inspector of fisheries in Dunedin, has presented a petition to the House through Mr C. E. Statham that he may be reinstated in his post or receive suitable compensation. It is set forth that the petitioner was originally employed in the Government Life Insurance Department, and occupied a dual position. In October last it was intimated to him that it was not advisable for him to continue to draw an allowance from the insurance branch. This reduced his salary by £IOO. In March last the Marine' Department dispensed with his services, as the work could be done in connection with the Portobello fish hatcheries at a Jess cost. It is alleged that this is not the real reason, but that he was discharged because he refused to join in a recommendation which he knew to bo wrong and that the Acclimatisation Society might have used influence because its interests clashed with those of the deep-sea fishermen.
