FIXTURES. Australasian Championshps. at Alelbourno. —Proposed dates, January and LeDruary 2, 1914. MOTHS 11 V A MAT Kill Tho Victorian A.A.A. are new seeking io fix the Australasian chanipionsh.ps tor January 24 and 26. -New Zealand objected, i iic alternative ;s to lake two teatumaxa, January 31 and Febru iry 7. Tins will ~u it \ ieicriaiis, Liu will a suit the other Slates'." _ _ The troubles of the Now Zealand Council in connection with tho proposed Ameiic.ui team io tour New Zea'anh and Au.-aalia arc by no means over. Ah the prelim.naiy work in connection with tho arrangements of the Americans* visit have been carnet, out so far successfully by the Atw /ea.anc. Council with the authorities in Amiiica, and it oiiiv required the to operation ot the Australian Slates io tiiMirc tom 1 ating. This co-cperai ion to the extent hoped for has not been forthcoming from Australia. Queensland decided straight out, not against the proposal, but against being included in the lour, owing to lack of funds. New South Wales favoured the proposal, and guaranteed £150: Victoria also favoured tho scheme, and promised its guarantee conditionally; South Australia is not in a position to entertain ihe visit, and Tasmania is anxious to come in on special terms. ihe whole position is most unsatisfactory, and unle.ss a definite reply >s received short, y respecting a guarantee from ATctona. the prospects are that the tour well have to be abandoned—a regrettable happening all will agree. At a recent meeting of the Wellington Centre a circular letter was received from the New Zealand Association in regard to the proposed visit to Australasia of the American team. Jhe loiter stated that the total expense incurred by the visit would be about £7OO, of which Australia would bo expected to contribute one-half. Tho Wellington Centre was asked to guarantee £6O. which amount must l>o available whenever required. It was decided to notify the Now Zealand Association that tho centre was wiring to contribute tho required amount. Air C. T. Young was appointed hon. secretary of the centre, in succession to Mr C. A. Scott, who is leaving shortly for Timaru. In connection with the American team’s visit a writer in a Sydney paper says; — “Tho most important happening of the week was the decision of tho local association to invite the team of American athletes to New South Wales. Though tho New Zealand Association asked for a guarantee of only £l5O, it will cost more than double that amount when entertainment, board, sports meetings with their attendant prizes, etc., are reckoned. Several delegates urged that the whole venture be handed over to an outside body, providing the association were guaranteed against loss, and received a certain percentage* of profit over and above a certain sum. The main body of delegates, however, could not see the matter in that light, and they then upon elected a committee of 10 to manage tho visit. It seems likely that owing to tho men arriving in Sydney but six days or eo before tho Australasian championships, they will proceed straight lo Alelbourno for that iiio; ting, and show in Sydney on their return journey. That brings the date to early in February, and if tho local association be. fortunate they might also secure some of the New Zealanders returning from the Alelbourno carnival an an additional attraction.”

The French championships wore decided on Juno 21 at Paris. Jn France, district, or, as they still call them, regional championships, have boon introduced, and the host of these come on to the big meeting. 'File standard is steadily improving.
