The choir night at the Competitions Festival attracted a vast audience, and many were unable to gain admission to the theatre. Herr Carl Sauer (musical judge) said that he had not heard better choral work in Australia. It astonished him to find m.V choirs entered at Invercargill, when Melbourne, with over half a million people, could not obtain that number of entries. The results were: St. John’s Choir (Invercargill), 349 points. 1; Mr J. E. Taylor’s party and Biuit Choir, 335 points (equal), 2- Gore Congregational Choir, 311 points, 5.
