TARANAKI PRESBYTERY.
WANGANUI, August 8,
At a meeting of the Taranaki Presbytery it was decided that the Presbytery heartily approves of the platform of the Bible-in-Statc-Schools’ league, and earnestly recommends the cause to congregations within the bounds of the Presbytery. With regard to the proposition at present before the Foreign Missions Committee of the Assembly to send Professor ilewitson as a delegate to Canton to confer with the Mission Council on an important building scheme, and on educational, theological, medical, and other problems, the clerk reported that on circularising the members of Presbytery it was found that the great majority favoured the idea. A report to that effect was sent to the Foreign Missions Committee. . ,
” In view of the fact that this year marks the jubilee of the establishment of the Presbyterian Church in Taranaki, a suitable commemoration is to bo made. The first regular Presbyterian service was held in New Plymouth in April, 1863, by the Rev. J. Thom. The congregation was offered hearty congratulations by tho Presbytery.
