COLLIERY ON FIRE
23 MEN ENTOMBED. LONDON, August 3. The Gadder colliery in Mavis Valley (Glasgow) is on fire. , Twenty-three men are entombed. August 4. The fire was discovered when the afternoon shift was finishing. Three men escaped. Two rescue parties were driven back by smoke, but after a third attempt five bodies were recovered. All hope for the remaining 15 has been abandoned.
