FROZEN MEAT TRADE.

HANDLING IN LONDON. NAPIER, August 1. Writing to the Daily Telegraph on the subject of the frozen meat trade, the Hon. T. Mackenzie, High Commissioner, says ; “ I am pleased to be able to say that when the projected improvements by the Port of London Authority are carried out it will make an enormous difference in the handling of produce at this centre. I have been pressing the Authority to accept tenders, as promised, and they expect almost daily to do so.” MR LYSNAR’S CAMPAIGN. WELLINGTON, August 1. The campaign carried on by Mr W. jD. Lysnar. of Gisborne, against the methods of handling frozen meat and dairy produce from New Zealand at the Port of London was mentioned at the Agricultural Conference to-day, and given a mixed reception. The chairman (Mr Campbell) paid Air Lysnar a high compliment on the work he had done in pricking up the Port of London Authority to action in regard to the improvement in the port methods. Ho ! had heard that that authority intended I to send a man out to Australia and New ■ Zealand especially to controvert the statements made by Air Lysnar. Mr Hammond (Wanganui) said Mr Lysnar was on the right lines, and had done a power of good to New Zealand interests. I Sir Walter Buchanan took the other | view, and declared that Mr Lysnar’s re- ; marks about the capacity of Bristol for handling New Zealand produce were disputed absolutely. In many other respects, tie contended, Mr Lysnar’s statements had been most 'unfortunate for the cause he had at heart, and had done more harm , than could be well imagined. 1 The chairman wound up the discussion ; by saying that, whatever Mr Lysnar’s methods had been, they had certainly i had the effect of bringing about improve- , rnents at the Port of London.
