WANGANUI HARBOUR.
OPPOSITION TO PROPOSED LOAN. {Fhom Our Own Couukspondent.) WANGANUI, August 4. The Wanganui Harbour Empowering Bill is to be dealt with in committee on Thursday, and the measure promises to have a stormy passage, Rangitikei stremjously protests against being included, and at a meeting of the County Council a deputation was received from settlers between Turakina and Wangaehu. They admitted making use of the port now, but considered they would receive no advantage if the bm harbour scheme is adopted. It was resolved, after hearing the objections raised by the ratepayers in the portion of the Rangitikei County proposed to be included in the Wanganui Harbour rating area—“ That this council strongly protests against any portion of the county of Rangitikei being included in the said harbour rating area, and empowers the committee appointed at the last meeting of the council to act hi accordance with this resolution and support the petition from the ratepayers in this behalf.” It was also decided on the motion of the chairman—“ That this council is entirely opposed to the proposed Wanganui Harbour empowering scheme. , for which authority to borrow £250.000 is now asked by the Harbour Board.”
