OAMARU STOCK MARKET. (From Our Own Correspondent ) OAMARU. July 26. There is not much to report in regard to the stock market. There is a good demand for owes and hoggets, but the possibilities of business arc greatly nullified by the paucity of sheep generally oflering for sale. As to values, that may lx- seen in the fact that a lino of four, six, and eight-tooth ewes found a buyer at 25s 6d. A small lot of failing mouthed sold at 13s 6d. One lino of 500 small hoggets, mixed sexes, brought 15s, and hill wether hoggets have been sold at 13s. For 270 fat wethers the price obtained was 22s 6d per head. There has been practically nothing doing in cattle, there being almost none for sale. Beef is scarce, and at this week’s sale up to £l2 was paid for fat bullocks, fat heifers and cows bringing relatively good prices. There is a consistent demand for well-grown bullocks in forward condition, and these are worth from £7 to £B. dairy cows coming to profit continue to sell readily at about £4 for good young animals, while well-bred young cows fetch from £lO to £l2. SOUTHLAND STOCK MARKET. (From Our Own Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL. July 27. The business passing in the stock market during the past week lias not been of the same dimensions as during the previous few weeks. There is still a very keen demand for store stock of all descriptions. Several northern buyers on the look out for stock have been scouring the district in all directions. while a good number of local buyers have also come on the market. Store sheep is very hard to get hold of, and there is sure to be a great scarcity until next season. The weather at the time of writing is again broken, and should it continue wet and cold for two or three weeks it will certainly have a bad effect on prices, but if it takes up and we get an early spring values’of stock of all descriptions will certainly harden and adygneo beyond the present prices. Store sheep are bringing such high prices for July—the highest for this time of the year for many years—that if they continue to advance for the next few months and the grass comes away freely ihev will go so high as to cause a large number who would rather buy sheep to go in for cattle. Fat stock still hold firm, txyth sheep and cattle being in strong demand, at last week's prices. At the next Wallacetown sale on Tuesday there is likely to be a good yarding, and good prices will certainly continue. The store cattle market has taken a rise of late, and still continues to advance steadily, and by October they should he quite 30s per head dearer than at present. CHRISTCHURCH. July 23. At the Addington live stock market the entries of slock were not so large as the week before, and the attendance was also smaller. Money still continues in short supply generally, but the banking figures show some improvement as compared with throe months ago and also as compared with this time last year. Returns coining in from the realisation of the season’s produce always bring an improvement in this quarter, and it is pleasing to sec that- the position is slightly better than it was a year ago. This has been brought about by reduced advances, as the deposits are also slightly less than last year. The trade returns to Juno 30 show an excellent total of exports, showing increased production in our main products, but it must not be lost sight of that the growth is largely a price increase. Imports continue on a very liigh level, and are nearer to the level of exports than is advisable, taking all the circumstances into consideration. —Trade Review.
