Certain parts of Westland have been regarded as strongholds of enti-militarists, hut. according to reports received recently, lads ¥able for military training are coining forward to drill freely and willingly. Mr J. B. Uooso, late of IlopelancU, was unfortunate at the ballot for the Mangatainoka Block sections on Friday, July 18 (says a northern paper). He- had just gone out for a stroll when he drew u section, and ns he did not answer when his name was called, a fresh ballot took place.
