AUSTRALASIAN WOOL EXPORTS

In July last year, after careful consideration, Messrs Dalgety and Co. 'ventured to forecast that the Australian wool clips for the then approaching season would show a falling off of 250,000 bales. Oy October 21, in a supplementary estimate, they placed the Commonwealth deficiency at 300,000 bales. These estimates were denounced by those interested in wool-buying; and until quite recently many would not admit the correctness of the estimate. The estimate has now been verified. The exports of wool from the Commonwealth from July 1, 1912. to June 30. 1913, from figures compiled by Dalgety and Co. (Ltd.) have amounted to 1,718,486 bales, showing a shortage on the shipments of the previous year of 502,061 bales. There is also a further deficiency resulting from the net weight of the bales being 101 b per bale lighter than in the preceding year, which is equivalent to 53,000 bales, so that the total shortage for the Commonwealth for the past 12 months, based on the net weight of the exports, is 355.000 bales. Shipments from Now Zealand for the past season total 528,779 bales, an increase upon llie exports for the previous 12 months of 11.459 bales; but, allowing for the short weight of 101 b per bale for the 1912-13 clip, as against that of 1911-12, the result for New Zealand (instead of an increase of 11.459 bales) is a shortage of 5000 bales.
