ALLEGED POLITICAL BARGAIN.
THE HIGH COMMISSIONERS!!!!*. (From Ouu Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, July 15. The statement made bv Mr \\ itty, during his speech in the present debate, to the effect that the present Government attained office as a result of an arrangement with the Hon. T. Mackenzie (tiie late Prime Minister and now High Commissioner) was referred’ to by the Prime Minister this even in"’ The °Hon. Mr Massey declared emphatically that there was no bargaining such as suggested. Mr Witty : One of our own men said so. Mr Massev: I know nothing about it. Mr Mackenzie was never approached by anv one on our side of the House, and he never approached us. That I should say this is only fair to an absent man and a member of' the opposite side of the House. Mr Witty: No, a member of your side, you mean. , . Mr Massey repeated that nothing in the way of bargaining took place. There was no mention of the appointment of Mr Mackenzie as High Commissioner prior to the division taking place in the House.
