The package was returned with the seals intact, but the necklace had been replaced by sugar. July 17. Mr Meyer, the owner of the valuable packet, was occupied for a year in collecting the 61 pearls of which the missing necklace consisted. It is believed to be the most valuable in the world. The price asked for it was £150,000. It was insured for the full amount with Lloyd’s, who have offered £IO,OOO reward. The sugar put in place of the pearls represents their weight to a gramme.
