CHRISTCHURCH TRAMWAYS.
TROUBLE THREATENED. CHRISTCHURCH, June 13. There ie a possibility of trouble in the local tramway service over what is known as the " spare list." Under the exitsing rule it is possible_for a man on the spare list to come on duty at 8 a.m. and finish at 11.15 p.m., putting in only 6£ hours' actual time on duty. Feeling has been running high for some time past. A meeting of the men last night resolved that the board be asked to prepare a roster providing a minimum of eight hours' work or the equivalent in pay. Failing a satisfactory roster being put into operation, the traffic is to be suspended at 2 p.m. on June 24. In the meanwhile a mass meeting is to be held to discuss the situation.
